Whole oats or old fashioned rolled oats have had very little gelatinisation of the starches within, so they are often boiled before being added to the mash.
Blue Lake Millling Rolled Oats are traditionally milled oat kernels that have been steamed to stop the enzymes from breaking down the naturally occuring fats, then rolled into flat flakes under heavy rollers.
These Rolled Oats need to be mashed in conjunction with a base malt.
