Get ready for this NEIPA’s fruity hops to drop their juicy tropical flavours all over your senses. With a deliciously smooth malt bill containing flaked oats and a kick of wheat, you’re sure to get a soft, full mouthfeel with a cloudy appearance that’s exactly what makes this beer style so different from West Coast IPA. The tropical hop flavours are extracted in one huge hop addition that we call a ‘Fruit Drop.’ The Fruit Drop addition happens during the whirlpool and gets held for 20 minutes at between 80C and 70C. There’s no harsh flavours and no abrasive kettle hop additions with this beer. Everything you need to achieve a smooth, mango and pineapple character is achieved with the Fruit Drop which will also activate just enough isomerisation in the hops to get the perfect, subdued bitterness to help balance all the fruit flavours and rich malt presence. For a long creamy finish that’s incredibly hoppy without much bitterness, Fruit Drop NEIPA delivers a luxury tropical vacation with every sip!
Want more aroma? Drop all your leftover hops into the fermenter with a dryhop addition at about 3 days into fermentation.
Due to the use of unhusked grains in this recipe, consider throwing in a few handfuls of rice hulls to help you keep your mash drainage from sticking.
