Blue Lake Milling Rolled Barley Flakes are traditionally dehulled barley grains, that have been steamed and rolled flat under heavy rollers.

This process creates a product, which is both great on the palate and easy to digest.

Barley is one of the oldest cultivated grains.

Why use Flaked/Rolled Barley in your brewing and what styles benefit from having a flaked barley addition?

Flaked barley gives a dry, grainy flavour to your beer, as well as improving head retention.

Flaked, rolled barley has been pre-gelatinised, which means it doesn't require cooking (aka cereal mashing) before use.

Flaked barley is also even easier to use because it doesn't need to be milled since the rolling process exposes the inner starch layer.

Try using some in Porters and Stouts to bring up the grainy goodness or even toast them lightly before adding to ESB or Specialty Beers.

Possible Substitutions:  Carapils
