Triticale, a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and Rye (Secale), ‘UDALE’ Barellan NSW
Triticale was first developed by Plant Breeders in Europe in the 1800’s.
Triticale combines the yield potential and grain quality of wheat with the disease and environmental tolerance (including soil conditions) of rye.
Voyager source their Triticale from ‘Udale’ North of Barellan where its been grown by David Robertson for the past 20 years.
Best described as ‘Wheat with Character’ our Triticale malt is a great substitution for wheat when looking to further enhance the body.
Mouthfeel and flavour of wheat dominated beers.
Triticale malt can also be substituted for Rye, where slightly less spiciness and viscosity are required.
Possible Substitutions: Ryecorn or Winter Wheat or add a mixture of both...
