Thermentor King - Compact Temperature Control System

This pack also includes the 12v power pack to run the unit.

Want to ferment with heating and cooling but don't have room for a fermention chamber or converted fridge?

Thermentor King is the size of a shoebox but packs enough brewery heating and cooling power to knock your socks off.

First, set up your fermenter with our Stainless Steel Cooling/Heating Coils (not included).

Then hook up a Thermentor King Temperature Control System to be able to heat and cool between 20C and 25C from ambient temperature.

Thermentor King utilises enhanced thermo-electrics that combined glycol can heat up to 40C and Chill 20 to 25C from ambient temperatures on your single batch brew up to 30L.

Very low noise level when in operation.

Thermentor King Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find the questions we get asked the most regarding our Thermentor King. Please click on one of the questions below to see the answer.

Professional brewers refer to themselves as yeast babysitters, not so much as malt managers or anything like that. Temperature control is the most important part of your fermentation for 99% of the beer styles. Without proper temperature control, you will face off flavours or your yeast will not perform well enough and your end product will not be as good as it should be

The reason why we developed the Thermentor King temperature control units was the desire to be able to control temperature in our pressure Fermenters to make the best quality beer in a Home Brew situation. Whilst fridges and Glycol chillers can do this they are not so cost effective and they take up space in the home. For small volume application of 35 litres or less we came up with the Thermentor King which uses an enhanced Peltier cooling module to both cool and heat. Whilst it is not the most efficient in the use of energy it does offer the lowest cost and is quiet. For larger volumes up to 60 litres we needed to have something with greater cooling capacity so we came up with the idea of using a cry cooling unit which is something very advanced that can generate very low temperatures in small volumes. .

The Thermentor King uses a Solid State Cooling System, no compressor needed! Compressors are not used and so there is no refrigerant, there is no chance of refrigerant or oil leaking.

Setup should be done in accordance with the manual. A common problem occurs with users running the systems before they are fully primed and then they can ice up very quickly and bring great frustration.

Because the part in these machines where the cooling is done is actually quite small they are easily able to freeze (sometimes in seconds) if there is no flow of coolant (water with 3-4% glycol). Also when the temperature setting is very close to the freezing point then it can happen that they will freeze if not enough coolant is passing through. The pumps which are used are of sufficient flow rate but if users have long lines or use unsuitable cooling coils then it can lead to freezing and then there is no more coolant to flow through.

We have done all our development using the Keg King stainless cooling coils that are available for the Juniors, Chubbies and the Apollo Fermenters. Its best to keep the connecting lines as short as is practical. It is important that these lines and the connections are encased in foam rubber insulating tube which is readily available from Bunnings or other places that sell this to insulate air con lines.
If people use other coils then we cannot be sure that they will work adequately and we make no representations for that.

All our testing was done using Keg King insulating jackets which incorporate features designed to prevent cold air from leaking out and causing a loss of efficiency. The KK jackets use a 50 mm insulating layer with silver thermal lining on the interior. They are of a very strong, long lasting material because they need to have oversized zips which mesh well enough to minimise the egress of cold air and the ingress of heat. Using these jackets will ensure that you get the best cooling and heating performance.
The use of jackets made from lesser materials is not recommended. Tight fitting neoprene is not useful in this situation. We need to minimise the possibilities of heat moving in or out. We have seen people use jackets that just sit over the top and have no enclosed bottom. These allow cool air to leak and render the system very inefficient and useless.

The Apollo Titan SS unit will work just like the PET Apollo as there is no stainless steel exposed. Metals are highways for heat transfer so any exposed metal will quickly make the system inefficient and even useless. We know people trying to use these with other stainless fermenters which have exposed legs and/or fittings and its not effective. The system is about minimising the ingress/egress of heat energy and if used as described in the manual it provides a very effective system.

No compressors to fail and lower power consumption especially with the TK Max and TK Super Max. Smaller footprint less noisy.
If you want to ferment up to 60 litres and have good temperature control then these units will do the job well for you if operated correctly. They are not designed to be a substitute for chillers although they do similar jobs.
